In January 2013, Hans Jeschek was awarded the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal. Congratulations Hans! Hans was voted Hope and District Chamber of Commerce’s first lifetime honorary member in 2001. In his 25 years of volunteer leadership in this community he held almost every position from Director through to President and worked on a wide variety of Committees and Task Forces.
He also contributed his energy to support fundraising efforts and community projects ranging from the Fantasy Auctions and car lotteries to building the Memorial Park playground, Sixth Avenue ballpark lighting, Sucker Creek Salmon Enhancement Project and the street banners program. He lobbied for better highway access for Hope, participated in meetings on the future of the lumber mill in Boston Bar and attended countless District of Hope meetings on behalf of the Chamber.
He also became involved in the BC Chamber of Commerce as a District Director and served as an elected member for 10 years on the Leadership and Management Development Council of BC.
As the year 2001 was declared the International Year of Volunteers by the United Nations, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce launched the Chamber Volunteer Award to honour and recognize the efforts of community Chamber and Board of Trade volunteers. On August 8, 2001 Hans Jeschek of Hope B.C. and Gary Follett of the St. John’s Board of Trade in Newfoundland were honored with this award. Hans received his Award at a formal luncheon at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Annual General Meeting on September 16 2001. Unfortunately, due to 9/11 air travel confusion Gary Follett was unable to attend.
On March 2, 2003 Hans was honoured to receive the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal on board the ‘HMCS Ottawa’ in Vancouver Harbor. The Queens Golden Jubilee Medal is awarded to Canadians who have made a significant contribution to their fellow citizens, their community, or to Canada.
Hans came to Canada from his native Austria in 1960 and worked as a Management Consultant Engineer. He was also a drapery manufacturer, retail store owner, motel owner and restaurant owner. Hans currently is a realtor, operating the Royal LePage office in Hope.
